Diving on Porto Santo

Portuguese island Porto Santo also known as Ilha Dourada (The golden island) belong to the Madeira archipelago in the Atlantic ocean. This island is geographically closer to Africa but still part of the European Union. The official language is Portuguese. The Portuguese consider it to be the seventh world wonder. To enter the country, EU citizens don’t need a visa, only a valid ID or passport. In 2020 the island became a UNESCO biospheric reservation.

Porto Santo is an attractive destination for the families of scuba divers as well. The main attraction of the island is a 9km long sandy beach with therapeutic properties and crystal clear warm water. Besides swimming and scuba diving, the island has ideal conditions for stand-up paddling, windsurfing, and boat trips or you can try surfing, horse riding, trips on quads, etc. You cannot miss the windmills, natural pools of Porto das Salemas, tasting of the traditional local specialties, and visiting VIla Baleira where you can find the famous Lambeca ice cream or the museum of Cristoph Columbus who used to live on the island for some time.

The 4th World Championship of Underwater Video and the 18th World Championship of Underwater Photography, with the participation of 21 teams from all around the world took place in Porto Santo which proves the attractiveness of this destination.

OFFER:

• The trip is designed for a group of max. 8 people. (minimum 5 participants)
• The trip duration is 8 days and 7 nights (5 to 7 diving days).
• During your stay, there are 10 dives planned (2 dives per day).
• The current price starts at: 1.350,-€ (cca.32.900,-czk) / person, (prices can change depending on the price of flight tickets and type of accommodation).
• Price for a non-diver: 900,-€ (cca.22.000,-czk) / person, (prices can change depending on the price of flight tickets and type of accommodation).
• Deposit: 650,-€ (cca.15.900,-czk) for every participant, paid at the act of booking.
• The price without the flight ticket is 960,-€ (ca.24.000czk) / person, (price can change depending on the type of accommodation).

PROGRAM:

• 1st day – arrival and check-in in the afternoon, free time in the evening
• 2nd day – 7th day – diving – reefs, shipwrecks, caves and other interesting places
• 7th – in case of no dive, free time, trip around the island (included in the price) etc.
• 8th day – morning transfer to the airport and departure

Mandatory:

• diver insurance
• document proving your qualification (licence)

Diving locations:

• Cordeca shipwreck – the boat sank in 2016, upper part of the boat in 15m, bottom 30m, visibility up to 30m. Minimal current, OWD.
• Baixa das Bicudas – reef starts at 20m and falls to 30m, visibility up to 30m, without current, for OWD.
• Madeirense shipwreck – cargo ship sank 22 years ago, from 24m to 31m depth, visibility until 30m, mild current, for OWD.
• Pedra do Sol – the wall starts at 5m until 12 m, visibility more than 25m, no or minimal current, easy dive also for OWD.
• Baixa do J – reef with big rocks starts at 13m and slopes down to 20m, visibility up to 30m, mild current, suitable for OWD.
• Poiso Velho – interpesting dive to volcanic wall starts at 15m and falls to 36m, there is a small cave in the wall, visibility up to 30m, mild to strong current. For AOWD.
• PoioPequeno – very nice reef, starts on sand at 5m and goes down to 26m, dive around the reef, visibility up to 20m, mild, sometimes strong current. Suitable also for OWD.
• Ilhéu de Cima Cave – interesting small cave, dive starts at 15 to 25m, visibility 20m, minimal or no current, suitable also for OWD.
• Baixa do Max – wall reef from 15m to 33m, visibility up to 20m. strong current, suitable for experienced divers, AOWD.
• Tuna Reef – deep dive for experienced divers, wall with black coral starts at 35m up to 60m, sometimes with a strong current, visibility 20m, AOWD.
• Baixinha – reef with stone walls on the bottom, 7 to 30m deep, mild current, visibility up to 30m. For OWD.
• Baixa do Cotrim – easy reef dive suitable also for OWD, depth between 8 to 22m, visibility up to 30m, mild current.
• Baixa dos Leques – easy OWD dive at a nice reef, between 8 and 22m in sand, visibility up to 30m, mild current.
• + more locations and of course at all of them you can spot variety of interesting fish and animals like: morays, rays, octopuses, mantas, sea turtles, baracudas, tunas, doplhins and many more.
